Kenya Airways Cargo on Tuesday flew more than 50 live cows from Jomo Kenyatta International Airport in Nairobi to Lagos, Nigeria, on a chartered freighter.
The airline announced the operation on its official X account, writing: "Moo-ve over, traffic! Our VIP cattle are taking to the skies in search of greener pastures." It thanked the unnamed client and the KQ Cargo team for the successful shipment, according to the post from Kenya Airways.
Specialised live-animal service
The flight falls under Kenya Airways' KQ Live product, which handles live animals under strict welfare, ventilation and biosecurity rules. Live cattle are moved by air when buyers want speed and lower stress compared with longer overland or sea routes.
Kenya Airways has not named the customer, the breed or value of the animals, the purpose of the shipment, or the cost of the charter. Photos released by the airline show the cows in specialised metal crates on the airport apron ready for loading.
Intra-African cargo
Lagos is already on Kenya Airways Cargo's freighter network. The shipment illustrates how specialised charters can move high-value agricultural consignments between East and West Africa.
The airline continues to expand cargo revenue beyond passengers, horticulture and standard freight. Earlier coverage of Kenyan logistics and trade appears on Mwenendo.
The operation was completed on 27 October 2026.
