ABOUT MWENENDO
Making sense of Africa's economy, one story at a time
Mwenendo is a modern, independent publication helping people understand the money, markets, companies and economic decisions shaping their lives, businesses and opportunities. We strive to connect our readers to the global developments that move markets.
We focus on money, markets, businesses and the people behind them. Our job is not only to report what happened, but to explain why it matters, who is affected and what it means for you, in plain language and without jargon or hype.
What we do
Every story begins with a question a reader would actually ask, and ends with a clear answer. We gather reporting leads from credible newspapers, broadcasters, official government and state-agency communications, and monitored public social accounts. Each lead is researched, checked against independent sources, written in our house style and scored for accuracy and public interest before it is published. Stories that cannot be verified are not published.
Beyond reporting the facts, we give the context, the evidence and the people behind the story, so you can understand not only what happened, but what it means for your money, your work and your opportunities.
How AI is used here
We are open about this. Mwenendo is AI-assisted. Automation helps us monitor sources, research, draft and structure copy, translate figures into local context and prepare summaries at speed. It does not replace editorial judgement. Human editors set the standards the system works to, review sensitive and high-risk stories, and stay accountable for what appears on the site. Where a story cannot be reported responsibly, we either pivot to verified context and analysis, or we do not run it.
Verified first
We check every claim against independent sources before publishing, and link to original reporting so you can see the evidence.
Kenya first, Africa next, global in context
Kenyan business and the Kenyan economy lead, with African and global developments that move them in context.
Openly AI-assisted
Automation for speed and reach; human editors for judgement, ethics and accountability.
Attribution and credit
When a story originates with another publisher, we say so in the copy and link back to them. Our Daily News Roundup exists to point readers to the best reporting across major local and international mastheads, not to replace it. We never present another newsroom's work as our own.
Independence and funding
Mwenendo is an independent publication. Editorial decisions are made independently of commercial interests, advertisers or partners. Any sponsored or promotional material is clearly labelled as such and is never mixed into news coverage.
