Dangote GDR Offer: Kenyans Can Now Buy In From KSh 535 After Deadline ExtensionDangote GDR Offer: Kenyans Can Now Buy In From KSh 535 After Deadline Extension
Key Highlights
- The Nairobi Securities Exchange has cut the minimum Dangote Kenya GDR purchase from 2,000 receipts to 10, so a Kenyan can now take part from KSh 535 ($4.12).
- Each receipt costs KSh 53.50 ($0.41), and the offer now closes on 27 October 2026 instead of 13 October after a 14-day extension.
- Applications run through a web portal or the 483250# USSD code, need a valid CDSC account and full payment in shillings, including through M-Pesa.
Kenyans can now take part in the Dangote refinery share offer for as little as KSh 535 ($4.12), after the Nairobi Securities Exchange (NSE) cut the minimum purchase from 2,000 global depositary receipts (GDRs) to 10.
The change, announced alongside a 14-day extension of the closing date from 13 October to 27 October 2026, opens the Dangote Kenya Inward GDR Offer to ordinary savers who could not previously afford the entry ticket. Each GDR costs KSh 53.50 ($0.41), so the old minimum implied a stake of KSh 107,000 ($824.35) while the new one needs just KSh 535. The NSE said the offer gives Kenyan investors exposure to Dangote Petroleum Refinery in Nigeria.
How Kenyans can apply
Applications go through the offer's online portal at dangotegdr.e-offer.app or through USSD by dialling *483250#. Applicants need a valid CDSC account and must pay in full in Kenyan shillings through approved channels, which include M-Pesa and electronic funds transfer. The NSE advises investors to read the offer prospectus carefully before applying.
"For as little as Sh535, Kenyan investors can participate in the Dangote Refinery Nigeria IPO," the NSE said in its update. The exchange also said the offer period had been extended.
Why the deadline moved
The new Kenyan closing date matches the extension of the main offer in Nigeria. As Mwenendo earlier reported, the refinery extended its share offer to 27 October after Nigeria's securities regulator approved the new deadline.
That left Kenyan applicants facing conflicting dates, a problem Mwenendo flagged in its coverage of the refinery's nine-month results, when it advised applicants to confirm the closing date with licensed selling agents.
Kenya's route differs from other markets. As Mwenendo earlier reported, Ethiopia capped its offer at 100 qualified investors, whereas the Kenyan structure lets retail investors buy receipts that represent shares in the Nigerian company.
What investors should weigh
A lower minimum widens access but does not reduce risk. The GDRs represent shares in a company based in Nigeria, so returns depend on the refinery's performance and on the naira against the shilling. Investors should also confirm what the receipts entitle them to and how and when they can sell, because the NSE update does not state allotment or listing dates.
The extension gives applicants two more weeks, but it also comes as Kenya's equities market has been under pressure. Buyers should check that the money they commit is not needed for near-term bills, since the shilling amount is paid up front and the outcome of any allotment is not guaranteed in the notice.
