The Price Is Out: Quickmart Shares Open at KSh 7.50

Quickmart now has a price a saver can test.

Business Now reported on Monday that Sokoni Retail Kenya opened a sale of 2 billion existing shares at KSh 7.50. That is half of the 4 billion shares in issue, a KSh 15 billion book, and an implied value of KSh 30 billion. The offer runs from 5 October to 30 October. The smallest ticket is 500 shares, KSh 3,750, then steps of 100.

This is an offer for sale. Quickmart issues no new shares and takes none of the cash. Chief executive Peter Kang'iri told Business Now that expansion will be paid from cash the shops already make. Khusoko said the same: the proceeds stay with Sokoni, and the books showed KSh 10.9 billion owed to suppliers at the end of 2025.

What KSh 7.50 buys, and what it does not

The Capital Markets Authority has approved the offer. The Nairobi Securities Exchange has approved a listing of the whole share capital on the Main Investment Market Segment.

Reported pools put Kenyan institutions at 35 per cent, Kenyan retail at 20 per cent, foreign buyers at 20 per cent, East African buyers at 12 per cent, and the International Finance Corporation at 13 per cent. IFC has conditionally committed up to $15 million, about KSh 1.94 billion, pending its own board.

The chain runs 72 stores in 16 counties and took KSh 50.4 billion of sales in 2025. The stall that started it is already on the record. Monday only added the number. A household putting in KSh 3,750 is buying from today's owner, not funding the next aisle.

The board has talked of paying out at least 80 per cent of profit after tax if the books allow. That is a policy line, not a declared dividend.
