Money Came Back: African Startups Took $582.81 Million in Three Months
Key Highlights
- Fifty-eight African tech startups raised $582.81 million in the third quarter of 2026, the strongest quarter of the year and 70 per cent above the same period in 2025.
- The year so far stands at $1.39 billion.
- It is still well short of 2022.
African tech funding had its best quarter of the year.
Disrupt Africa said 58 startups raised $582.81 million in the three months to September. That is 70 per cent more than the $342.2 million raised in the same quarter of 2025, and more than the first two quarters of this year put together in one stretch.
The year had wobbled. Forty startups took $382.15 million in the first quarter. Thirty-eight took $260 million in the second, down on the year before. The third quarter reversed that dip.
Still a long way from the boom
So far in 2026, 137 startups have raised $1.39 billion. Run that pace to December and Disrupt Africa gets about 182 startups and $1.85 billion, against 178 startups and about $1.64 billion in 2025. Two years of growth would follow the $1.12 billion trough of 2024.
It is not the old peak. The same tracker put 2022 at $3.33 billion and 2023 at $2.4 billion. A founder reading a headline about money coming back is still raising in a market half the size of four years ago.
For a Kenyan reader the number is a climate report, not a cheque. Phone loans past KSh 165.1 billion is the money households already use. Startup rounds are a different pot, and this quarter says that pot is filling again, not that it is full.
